Oak Farm - Albarino - 2021
$29.99
Oak Farm Vineyards sits on a 70-acre homestead in Lodi's Mokelumne River AVA dating back to 1860, when original owner William DeVries refused to clear the property's ancient oaks for easier farming. They're still standing today. The Panella family bought the estate in 2004 and replanted much of it, adding Albariño to a property that once grew almost nothing but Zinfandel. This bottling is Lodi's answer to coastal Spanish whites: bright, savory and built for shellfish night.
Peach tart, shishito pepper, lemon zest, grapefruit and honeydew on the nose. Light-bodied with crushed stone, green apple and a faint saline note, finishing crisp and savory.
Classic matches for a white like this: Seafood, poultry, salads, fresh and soft cheeses.
The estate dates to 1860, when homesteader William DeVries insisted on keeping the property's centuries-old oaks rather than clearing them for crops. They still shade the vines today. The Panella family bought Oak Farm in 2004 and began replanting, expanding from Zinfandel-only to fourteen varietals including Albariño.
