Tinazzi Ripasso Superiore - 2021

Tinazzi's Ripasso Superiore comes from the Valpolicella hills near Verona, built from Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella and finished with the traditional ripasso method: the wine gets passed back over the leftover skins from the estate's Amarone harvest, then rests twelve months in French and American oak. The Superiore designation requires a full year of aging and higher alcohol than base Valpolicella. This bottling, called Monterè in Italy, sits under the Ca' de Rocchi label within Tinazzi's Collezione di Famiglia. Open it with something rich.

Bright red in the glass, with aromas of sour cherry, marasca cherry and stewed prune layered over leather, chocolate, vanilla and a whisper of balsamic from the barrel. Full-bodied, soft tannins, good acidity, long finish.

The estate pairs it with mushroom risotto, risotto with tastasal, or pasta tossed with sausage — classic Veneto comfort food.

Tinazzi is a family-run house based in Lazise on Lake Garda that farms estates across the Valpolicella and Amarone zones. This Ripasso, labeled Monterè, is bottled under their Ca' de Rocchi brand as part of the Collezione di Famiglia range.
