Ca’ del Baion - Paolina - Barbera d’Alba - 2022
$28.99
The Grasso family has farmed in Treiso, in the heart of Barbaresco, since the 1880s, when they owned a share of the famous Asili vineyard. Giulio and Luciana Grasso now run Ca' del Baio with their three daughters, Paola, Valentina and Federica. Paolina is their Barbera d'Alba: brief time in oak, deep ruby color, full-bodied but never heavy. It's an insider's pick from a Barbaresco house that most people only know for Nebbiolo. Pour it with anything off the grill.
Deep ruby with purplish highlights. Red currant, raspberry, cherry and a touch of vanilla from brief oak aging. Fresh, vibrant acidity, soft tannins, a smooth and persistent finish.
Classic matches for a red like this: Grilled and roasted meats, hearty pastas, aged cheeses.
Ca' del Baio has been in Grasso hands since Giuseppe Grasso settled in Treiso in the 1880s; the family once owned part of the prized Asili cru. Giulio and Luciana Grasso run the estate today alongside daughters Paola, Valentina and Federica, five generations deep in Barbaresco.
