Alta Vista - Brut Rose - NV

Alta Vista was built in 1998 by Patrick d'Aulan, whose family once owned Piper-Heidsieck Champagne, and the French pedigree shows. The winery sits nine miles south of Mendoza city in a 19th-century building with underground cellars holding a thousand French oak barrels. Brut Rosé is 50% Malbec and 50% Pinot Noir, made in the Charmat tank method so the fruit stays forward instead of getting buried in yeasty autolysis. Pale salmon color, cherry and strawberry on the nose. Good starter pour for someone who thinks they don't like sparkling wine.

Pale salmon color. Cherry, strawberry and floral aromas with a citrus lift. Light-bodied, bright acidity, medium bubbles, a grapefruit-like finish balancing tartness and a touch of sweetness.

Classic matches for a sparkling like this: Oysters, fried foods, salty snacks — bubbles cut through everything.

Founded in 1998 by French vintner Patrick d'Aulan, whose family previously owned Piper-Heidsieck. The bodega sits about 15 kilometers south of Mendoza city, aging wine in more than 1,000 French oak barrels inside 19th-century underground cellars.
