Aubert et Fils is a negociant Champagne from La Maison du Champagne in Epernay, made by the Rapeneau family, whose head Christophe Rapeneau was named 2017 Sparkling Winemaker of the Year. The blend leans on Pinot Noir (60%), with Pinot Meunier (30%) and Chardonnay (10%) filling it out -- a red-fruit-forward, full-bodied style built for people who want real Champagne character at half the price of the grower names. Good everyday bubble for a Tuesday celebration or a gift that doesn't announce itself as budget.

Toast and truffle on the nose, savory and a little smoky. Orchard fruit and brioche carry through a crisp, structured palate, finishing clean and dry.

La Maison du Champagne has been under the Rapeneau family for more than five generations, based in Epernay at the center of Champagne. Christophe Rapeneau, who runs the house today, was named 2017 Sparkling Winemaker of the Year.
