Dio Fili Xinomavro Rose 2025
$21.00
Dio Fili means two friends. The estate sits in Siatista, up in Greek Macedonia between Kozani and Grevena, founded in 2006 with Yiannis Boutaris of Kir-Yianni involved at the start. This rosé blends Xinomavro with Moschomavro, a nearly extinct local grape whose name means black muscat. Steel aged, deep pink, and far more assertive than the pale Provencal stuff. Drink it with real food, not by the pool.
Deep pinkish red. Ripe red berries, crisp stone fruit, white pepper and a mineral edge. Floral, spicy and exotic on the palate, medium to full bodied, raspberry and wild strawberry through the middle, briny mineral finish.
Grilled meats, a spread of Mediterranean mezze, aged cheeses. There is enough grip here to stand up to the grill.
Siatista vineyards sit at altitude on rocky limestone soils in a region that was famous for wine in the nineteenth century and then forgotten. Moschomavro almost died out by the 1970s. Local growers replanted it from old cuttings.
