Mimi is the Cabernet Franc from Holmes Wine, Jackie Moriarty's tiny Virginia label. She is a traveling winemaker who cut her teeth at Bluemont Vineyard and worked harvests from New Zealand on, now settled in Loudoun making just three wines. The 2020 comes from Williams Gap Vineyard fruit, fermented low-intervention with native yeast and a light touch of oak. A lighter, peppery Franc, and proof Loudoun grows this grape well.
Light bodied with cracked-pepper spice and fresh red fruit. Gentle tannin, restrained oak, savory native-ferment character, and a cool, easy finish. Takes a slight chill.
Charcuterie and soft cheeses, herb-roasted chicken, pork tenderloin.
Single-source Williams Gap Vineyard fruit from Loudoun County, made at Lost Creek. Moriarty ferments on native yeast and keeps oak in the background across her whole three-wine lineup.
