The Large family has lived in Villie-Morgon for more than two centuries, and many vines in the Les Delys lieu-dit were planted by Jean-Pierre's grandfather over a hundred years ago. This is 100 percent Gamay from those old vines, rooted deep in decomposed granite, schist, and iron-rich porphyre on south-facing slopes. Cru Beaujolais with real spine. James Suckling gave the 2022 a 92. File it next to your Burgundies. It will not embarrass them.
Concentrated Gamay with earthy breadth and a mineral backbone from deep granite and schist soils. More structure and grip than everyday Beaujolais. Long, stony finish.
Coq au vin, roast birds, a serious charcuterie board. It also does Thanksgiving better than most Pinot.
Les Delys sits on south-southeast slopes in Villie-Morgon, where vines root three to six feet into decomposed granite, schist, and iron-rich porphyre. Jean-Pierre's grandfather called this hamlet the cradle of his family.
