Lorenza Rose 2022 750ml
$20.99
Lorenza is a mother and daughter operation, Melinda Kearney and Michèle Ouellet, making California rosé with Provence in mind. The 2022 is thirty-eight percent Carignan, thirty-one Cinsault, eighteen Grenache, thirteen Mourvèdre, all from Lodi. Pressed gently, fermented long and slow in stainless steel, eleven point eight percent alcohol. Dry and built for drinking, not cellaring. It has been written up in the WSJ, Forbes and Wine Enthusiast. Pour it cold.
Orange salmon in the glass. Wild berry and rhubarb with a hint of fennel and a savory sea breeze edge. Energetic mouthfeel, zesty spice, a touch of sandalwood, mouthwatering acidity, long finish.
Classic matches for a rosé like this: Charcuterie, grilled shrimp, salads, and warm evenings generally.
The Carignan is the backbone, off head-trained Lodi vines more than fifty years old that give tiny concentrated berries. Cinsault comes from Sprague Vineyard in Clements Hills. Kearney and Ouellet chose these sites specifically for rosé, which almost nobody in California does.
