Masca del Tacco - Montecore - Primitivo - 2022

Montecore is a Salento Primitivo, Puglia IGT, from the Merge family group (I Viticoltori) behind Masca del Tacco and Rome's Poggio Le Volpi. Temperature-controlled maceration, then four months in French oak, which is exactly enough: the fruit stays in charge, not the lumber. Classic southern Italian style, plush and sun-warmed, with that faint Primitivo sweetness on the back end. Pizza night, cold weather, crowd on the way over. It does the job every single time.

Ruby red with violet glints. Ripe cherry and plum, cocoa, vanilla, and sweet spice. Velvety and full, soft tannins, gentle warmth, a persistent, faintly sweet finish.

Lamb ragu, sausage and rapini orecchiette, a hunk of aged pecorino.

Masca del Tacco is the Puglia arm of I Viticoltori, the Merge family company based in Erchie in the Salento, with more than 600 hectares of vines across Puglia and Lazio.
