Opus One is the joint dream of Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild, whose Château Mouton Rothschild partnered with Napa Valley to create the region's original Bordeaux-style collaboration wine, first released in 1979. The 2022 blends 80% Cabernet Sauvignon with 8% Petit Verdot, 6.5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot and 0.5% Malbec, aged 18 months in new French oak. Harvest ran August 24 to September 26 through a hot, turbulent season that still delivered exceptional freshness. This is the trophy bottle. Open it when the news is big, or cellar it for the next decade.

Blueberry, cassis, and dried rose petal lead, backed by olive, cigar box, and graphite. Bright red fruit, cocoa, and orange peel on the palate, with fine-grained tannins. Long finish of wet stone, vanilla, and coffee.
