Sette Ponti - Crognolo - 2021

$49.99

Crognolo is Tenuta Sette Ponti's flagship red, made by the Moretti Cuseri family -- better known for luxury footwear and fashion -- in Valdarno di Sopra, between Florence and Arezzo. They bought their first Sangiovese vines here in 1951; Antonio Moretti Cuseri started bottling under the estate's own name in the 1990s, and Crognolo, first made in 1998, comes from a Sangiovese clone planted in 1935. This 2021 is 90% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot, aged up to 14 months in oak -- a serious Tuscan red for a big Sunday roast.

Dark cherry, violet and orange peel on the nose, with sweet baking spice. Medium-to-full body, fine chalky tannins, and juicy vivacity through the finish.

Braised short ribs, a peppercorn-crusted ribeye, or aged pecorino.
