Shabo Dry Rose 750ml
$24.00
Shabo is Ukraine's oldest continuously working winery, founded in 1822 by French-speaking Swiss settlers on the Dniester estuary near Odesa. Nationalized under Soviet rule, it was privatized in 2003 and rebuilt by the Iukuridze family, Ukrainians of Georgian descent who modernized the winery and vineyards. This dry rosé comes from red grapes grown on that Black Sea coastline. It's a wine from a producer that has kept making wine straight through the war. Pour it as a warm-weather aperitif or alongside something light off the grill.
Fresh strawberry, red currant and light red florals on the nose. Crisp red berry, pink grapefruit and pomegranate on the palate, with bright acidity and a light, food-friendly body. Clean, mouthwatering finish.
Classic matches for a rosé like this: Charcuterie, grilled shrimp, salads, and warm evenings generally.
Shabo sits on the Dniester estuary about 70 km from Odesa, on a site settled by French-speaking Swiss winemakers in 1822. The estate was nationalized under Soviet rule and lay dormant for decades until the Iukuridze family bought and modernized it starting in 2003.
