Tim Mondavi's answer to what comes after Robert. Continuum is the Mondavi family's flagship estate red, grown on the rocky volcanic soils of their Sage Mountain Vineyard high on Pritchard Hill. The 2021 blends 45% Cabernet Sauvignon with an unusually generous 35% Cabernet Franc, plus 11% Merlot and 9% Petit Verdot. James Suckling gave it 99 points and called the tannins some of the best in a young Continuum. Perfumed, structured, first-growth ambition. A serious gift that rewards ten years of patience.
Black currant preserves, lilac, graphite, wild sage and baker's chocolate. Full and plush with a silky texture, fine-grained polished tannin, racy acidity and a long mineral finish.
Classic matches for Cabernet Sauvignon: Ribeye off the grill, lamb chops, aged cheddar, a rainy night and a good movie.
Tim Mondavi and his family established Continuum on Pritchard Hill after the Robert Mondavi Winery era ended, and it is now the family's sole wine project. Everything comes from the estate Sage Mountain Vineyard east of Oakville.
