A magnum of Alexander Valley at full stretch. Lancaster Estate farms the northern tip of the AVA east of the Russian River, and the 2016 Winemaker's Cuvee is 97 percent Cabernet Sauvignon with a splash of Merlot, aged 15 months in 30 percent new French oak. Wine Advocate gave it 94 points. This is the 1.5 liter bottle, which means slower aging, a grander pour and instant table theater. Buy it for the dinner that matters.
Cassis, blackberry and preserved plum with cedar chest, wood smoke, dried herbs and tapenade. Full-bodied, a solid line of ripe tannins, plenty of freshness, long finish.
