Andeluna - Altitud Malbec - Tupungato - 2020
$28.99
Andeluna grows this Malbec at 4,300 feet in Gualtallary, Tupungato, high enough that the Andes shape every vintage. The 2020 is hand-selected by cluster, cold-soaked, fermented with native yeasts, and aged 8 to 10 months in French oak, about 70% of the blend sees wood, before resting in bottle another six months. Winemaker Jimena Lopez built it around altitude and purity of fruit. It's serious high-altitude Malbec at a fair price, not the syrupy Mendoza cliché.
Peppery nose over black fruit, violet and floral notes, crunchy red fruit and ripe blackberry. Earthy, herbal undertones with high but well-integrated tannins and a long finish.
Classic matches for Malbec: Steak. Also steak. Grilled anything, empanadas, hard cheeses.
Grown at 1,300 meters in Gualtallary, Tupungato, in Mendoza's Uco Valley, where altitude and diurnal swing sharpen acidity and tannin. Andeluna hand-sorts fruit by cluster, ferments with native yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel, and ages roughly 70% of the wine in first, second and third-use French oak barrels.
