Borges & Irmao started as a trading house in 1884 and was deep into the wine business within a decade. The company bought Quinta da Soalheira in Sao Joao da Pesqueira in 1904 and still makes its best Port there. This is the white: Malvasia Fina, Gouveio, Rabigato and Viosinho from the Douro, blended to an average age of three to four years. Sweet, but not cloying. Chill it hard and drink it before dinner.

Light straw in the glass. Fruit in syrup on the nose with honeydew behind it. Sweet on the palate, but the acidity holds it up, and the finish turns toward dried fruit and a fresh sweetness.
