Josh Jensen founded Calera in 1975 high in California's Gabilan Mountains, planting some of the state's first Pinot Noir on limestone soils he sought out specifically because they reminded him of Burgundy. This Central Coast bottling draws from a handful of the region's best vineyards rather than the estate's famed single sites, aged 10 months in mostly neutral French oak. Wine Enthusiast and Wine & Spirits both scored it 91. It's an accessible entry point into a genuinely important producer.

Raspberry, dark cherry, dried sage, and sweet tobacco leaf on the nose. Soft, supple tannins frame wild strawberry and Bing cherry, with cracked black pepper and spice on a long finish.

Classic matches for Pinot Noir: Salmon, roast duck, mushroom risotto, a charcuterie board that means business.

Josh Jensen founded Calera (Spanish for 'lime kiln') in 1975 in the Gabilan Mountains of San Benito County, seeking out the limestone soils he believed Pinot Noir needed. The winery has since helped establish the Central Coast as one of California's most respected Pinot regions.
