Cantina Girlan - ‘Patricia’ - Pinot Noir - 2021
$42.00
Cantina Girlan is a South Tyrolean growers' cooperative founded in 1923 by 23 winegrowers, and it's one of Alto Adige's most respected. Patricia is named for Patricia von Elzenbaum, a grower from the village of Mazon who joined the co-op in 1980 and whose family farms nothing but Pinot Noir. Fruit comes from three named crus — Girlan, Mazon and Pinzon — planted between 380 and 530 meters.
Ruby red. Sweet-and-sour cherry and raspberry on the nose, framed by lively acidity and a juicy finish. Aged twelve months in large wood barrels, six more in bottle.
Classic matches for Pinot Noir: Salmon, roast duck, mushroom risotto, a charcuterie board that means business.
Roughly 200 grower families farm 215 hectares across Oltradige and Bassa Atesina for the co-op. Patricia sources three specific high-altitude Pinot Noir crus, honoring longtime grower Patricia von Elzenbaum.
