Casa E. di Mirafiore's Barolo comes from Serralunga d'Alba, where Nebbiolo grows in limestone, grey marl and sandy soil and the estate farms organically (biologico). Grapes are hand-picked and macerate on the skins for 30 to 40 days in stainless steel. Wine Spectator gave the 2020 93 points, pegging its window at 2029 to 2050; James Suckling scored it 92 and called it already attractive. Serious, patient Barolo for someone willing to cellar it, or at least decant hard tonight.

Macerated cherry, plum, graphite, eucalyptus and tobacco lead into a dense, burly palate that tightens hard on the finish under a strong grip of tannin. Red fruit, dried flowers and mineral notes with fine-grained, lightly chewy tannins.

Braised short rib, wild mushroom risotto, or an aged Toma to stand up to those tannins.
