Cass Vineyards Backbone Syrah 750ml

Backbone is Cass Winery's flagship Syrah, grown on the estate vineyard in the Geneseo District of Paso Robles, a limestone-flecked terrace above the Huer Huero River at 900 feet elevation. It's built for people who want serious California Syrah with real structure, not a jammy fruit bomb. Cass farms the site sustainably with dry-farmed blocks, which shows up as minerality in the glass. A good bottle for the smoker or the grill, not a sipping wine for the porch.

Black cherry, blueberry pie, cedar chips and wet earth on the nose, with a hint of sweet tar. Black pepper and dark fruit carry through a full, structured palate to a long finish.

Grilled lamb chops or anything off the smoker -- this Syrah wants char.

Backbone comes from the Cass Estate Vineyard in the Geneseo District sub-AVA of Paso Robles, 145 acres on a terrace above the Huer Huero River at 900 feet elevation. The limestone-rich alluvial soils lend the wine its minerality, and Cass farms the site sustainably with dry-farmed blocks.
