Castorani Cadetto - Montepulciano D’Abruzzo - 2019

$22.99

Podere Castorani is a Formula 1 driver's wine project. Jarno Trulli, born in Pescara and a grand prix racer from 1997 to 2011, revived this Abruzzo estate, first planted in 1793, starting in 1999 with a group of friends. Cadetto is the entry-level Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, organically farmed between the Majella mountains and the Adriatic coast. James Suckling scored the 2019 at 89 points. Full-bodied but approachable, it's built for the table, not the cellar.

Ruby red with violet highlights. Dusty dried sage, brown spice and crushed cherry on the nose, with sour cherry and raspberry too. Soft and round on the palate, full-bodied with mature tannins, juicy acidity and a gentle, medium-length finish.

Chicken, veal, light beef dishes, and classic red-sauce Italian pasta.

Podere Castorani dates to 1793, when Raffaele Castorani first took ownership. Jarno Trulli, the F1 driver, restored the estate starting in 1999 with a group of friends. It sits between Majella National Park and the Adriatic Coast, farmed organically with no chemical fertilizers or pesticides.
