Caterwaul Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 750ml

$74.99

Napa Cab royalty at a civilian price. Caterwaul is the partnership of Matt Hardin, a sixth-generation Napa farmer, and Thomas Rivers Brown, the winemaker behind Schrader and Rivers-Marie with more than sixty 100-point scores to his name. The 2021 Napa Valley bottling pulls from premium sites Hardin farms across the valley, about 8,000 cases, most of it headed to restaurants. Critics call it one of the great values in Napa Cabernet. At this price, we agree loudly.

Opaque purple. Plum, quince, oolong tea, cedar, and dark currant. Blackberry paste, leather, and cocoa nib mid palate, then raspberry and blueberry on a long finish. Fine tannins, supple.

Classic matches for Cabernet Sauvignon: Ribeye off the grill, lamb chops, aged cheddar, a rainy night and a good movie.

Hardin farms ultra-premium grapes for private clients, and his marriage into the Regusci family opened doors to top Napa vineyards. Brown makes the wine. Single-vineyard Caterwauls come from Regusci and Cemetery; this Napa Valley bottling is the entry point.
