2022 marked fifty years since Charlie Wagner made the first Caymus Cabernet in 1972, and this bottling is the anniversary release built to commemorate it. It's built mostly from Cabernet Sauvignon at 14.6% ABV, aged in 53% new French oak, with small amounts of Petit Verdot, Merlot and Cabernet Franc rounding out the blend. Caymus has made nothing but Napa Valley Cabernet since day one, and the estate's 60-plus acres of Rutherford fruit still anchor every vintage. Raspberry and boysenberry preserves up front with mocha and melted licorice, a late flicker of chaparral. Rich and round with textural, non-bitter tannins, restrained oak influence, and enough acidity to keep it from turning flabby.
