The Walking Fool is Chuck Wagner's love letter to Suisun Valley — Solano County's overlooked neighbor to Napa, planted since the 1800s with old Zinfandel and Petite Sirah vines nobody else was bottling seriously. The 2021 leans on that pairing: juicy, spice-driven, built for pizza night rather than the cellar. Caymus made its name on polish; this label is about digging up a forgotten appellation and giving it a real showcase.

Rustic wood, sweet spice, cigar and ripe strawberry and cherry on the nose. Smooth, lively palate of raspberry, cranberry and espresso, with soft, fine tannins. Dry finish, tannins fade gently.

Suisun Valley sits east of Napa in Solano County, a warm inland pocket with century-plus Zinfandel and Petite Sirah plantings. The Wagner family, owners of Caymus, built this label specifically to champion the appellation's old vines.
