Chappellet Vineyard - Mountain Cuvee - 2022

Donn and Molly Chappellet sold their food-service company in 1966 and planted Pritchard Hill in 1967, the first Napa estate built exclusively on high-elevation hillside vineyard rather than valley floor. Mountain Cuvee is their entry-level Bordeaux blend, built around Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc rounding it out. It's a way into a pioneering Pritchard Hill estate at a fraction of the price of their single-vineyard Cabernets. Good for a steak dinner or a gift for a Napa collector.

Dark cherry, blackberry and plum with toasty oak, clove, cardamom and thyme. Richly textured palate with coffee and chocolate notes, lushly layered fruit and spice, balanced tannins.

Chappellet was founded in 1967 by Donn and Molly Chappellet on Pritchard Hill, the first winery to plant exclusively on high-elevation hillside sites in Napa Valley. The pyramid-shaped winery, designed by artist Ed Moses, went up in 1968, with the first Cabernet Sauvignon released in 1969.
