Cloudy Bay is the wine that put Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc on the world map, and it still sets the benchmark the imitators chase. Fruit comes from the Wairau Valley's Rapaura, Renwick and Brancott sub-regions, where free-draining gravel soils and dry maritime air do the heavy lifting. Every vineyard parcel ferments separately, and the winemakers blend from more than 90 batches to keep the style dead consistent year after year. Passionfruit and citrus with actual polish. The name earns it.

Passionfruit, honeydew melon, citrus and blackcurrant leaf on the nose. Concentrated yet elegant palate with makrut lime, lemongrass, Meyer lemon and grapefruit skin, a saline sea-air freshness and a long zesty finish.

Oysters on the half shell, green-lipped mussels, goat cheese salads, Thai green curry.
