Colombaio di Cencio was founded in 1993 by German entrepreneur Werner Wilhelm in Gaiole in Chianti, one of the five communes that make up Chianti Classico; Fontanafredda took over the estate in 2018. The vineyards, farmed organically across the Cornia, Montelodoli and Vinci sites, sit on limestone-rich soil over sandstone. This is 100% Sangiovese, deep ruby with floral violet and rose notes. Balanced acidity and tannin keep it fresh rather than heavy. A Chianti Classico for someone who wants terroir without the Gran Selezione price.

Deep ruby color, fresh violet and rose aromas over crushed berry and a whiff of scorched earth. Balanced acidity, fine tannins, tangy mineral finish.

Founded in 1993 by Werner Wilhelm and acquired by Fontanafredda in 2018, Colombaio di Cencio farms 25 hectares in Gaiole in Chianti across three sites, Cornia, Montelodoli and Vinci, all in organic conversion. The soils share a limestone base over sandstone.
