Domain Duvernay - Rasteau - 2020
$30.99
Romain Duvernay's Rasteau 2020 is southern Rhone comfort from a cru village that outperforms its price. Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre, each variety picked and vinified separately at full ripeness, then raised in tank to keep the fruit front and center. The Guide Hachette 2023 gave it two stars. Rasteau earned its own red AOC in 2010 for a reason: sun-soaked, structured, generous. Open it with anything braised, now through 2027.
Dark berries and preserved plum with roasted, toasty notes. Full, ripe, and powerful in the mouth, fine tight-grained tannins, and a warm licorice-tinged finish with real length.
Classic matches for a red like this: Grilled and roasted meats, hearty pastas, aged cheeses.
Romain Duvernay is a negociant house working the southern Rhone's crus. Rasteau's south-facing slopes are Grenache heartland, promoted from Cotes du Rhone Villages status to a standalone cru appellation for dry reds in 2010.
