Fess Parker - Ashley’s Pinot Noir - 2020

Ashley's is named for Fess Parker's daughter and sources from Rancho Las Hermanas Vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills, the cool, windy western end of Santa Barbara wine country. The 2020 spent sixteen months in 46% new French oak, giving it more spice and structure than a typical entry-tier Pinot. It's a good bottle for someone who wants Pinot Noir with real depth and doesn't mind some oak influence. Pour it on a cold night with something rich on the table.

Black cherry, boysenberry, red plum and lavender, with baker's chocolate, vanilla, sage and clove underneath. Cracked pepper, smoked meat and forest floor carry through a savory finish with present tannin.

Duck breast or a mushroom risotto -- the savory, peppery finish wants something earthy.

Fruit comes from Rancho Las Hermanas Vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills, a cool, wind-exposed part of Santa Barbara County. The wine ages sixteen months in 46% new French oak, unusually high for the price tier, which explains its spice and structure.
