Fess Parker Winery in Los Olivos built its reputation on Rhone varieties, and this Santa Barbara County Syrah is a brawny, old-school example. The 2019 leans into grilled meat, elderberry and mesquite on the nose, with dark cherry, blackberry and pepper on a bold, structured palate. Wine Enthusiast scored it 91. Firm tannins and smoky oak carry through a long finish with lingering mint. This is a Syrah for people who miss when Syrah tasted like Syrah: savory, meaty, built for the grill.
