L'Ecole No. 41 built its reputation as one of Washington's top Merlot producers, and this 2021 draws fruit from nine of the state's best sites: Seven Hills, Pepper Bridge, Eritage, Summit View, Weinbau, Dionysus, McKinley Springs, Candy Mountain, and the winery's own Ferguson estate. The blend runs 84% Merlot with Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot rounding it out, aged 18 months in French oak, 20% new. A hot, low-yield vintage concentrated the fruit into something structured and serious.

Lively plum, cherry, and macerated berries meet sage leaf, fresh tobacco, cola, and cedar. Full-bodied and vigorous, with kirsch and cocoa powder flavors and a balanced, lingering, old-world finish.

Classic matches for Merlot: Roast chicken, pork tenderloin, mushroom anything, herbed potatoes.

L'Ecole draws this Merlot from nine vineyards across the Columbia Valley, hand-harvested between August 31 and October 8, 2021. The wine ages 18 months in French oak, 20% new, with 5,450 cases produced.
