Lingua Franca - 'AVNI’ - Pinot Noir - 2021

Lingua Franca was founded in 2015 by master sommelier Larry Stone and Burgundy legend Dominique Lafon, with winemaking and farming run by Thomas Savre, who trained at some of Burgundy's top domaines. Avni is their Willamette Valley bottling, built mostly -- more than 70% -- from the Lingua Franca estate itself, layering shallow Gelderman soils with richer Jory and Nekia sites planted to Pommard and 115 clones. Fermented with whole clusters and aged a year in French oak, medium-bodied and precise -- built for people who already love red Burgundy.

Red cherry lozenge, wild herbs and red floral perfume on the nose, with cranberry, strawberry, tangerine peel, mushroom and tobacco. Red and black cherry, rose petal and black tea on the palate, with ripe tannins and a graceful finish.

Roast duck, mushroom risotto, or a simple pan-seared salmon.

Over 70% of Avni's fruit comes from the Lingua Franca estate in the Willamette Valley, blending shallow Gelderman soils with richer Jory and Nekia sites planted to Pommard and 115 clone Pinot Noir. Larry Stone and Dominique Lafon founded the winery in 2015; Thomas Savre, who cut his teeth at top Burgundy domaines, runs the winemaking and farming.
