Lumen was founded in 2012 by Will Henry, whose family runs a Santa Barbara wine distribution business, and Lane Tanner, the first independent female winemaker in Santa Barbara County and the first in the region to build a winery around Pinot Noir alone. This bottling draws from cool-climate Santa Barbara County fruit, in the Santa Maria Valley style -- savory, earthy Pinot rather than the jammy Central Coast norm. A good bottle for someone who wants Burgundy-leaning California Pinot without the Sonoma Coast price tag.

Bing cherry, red plum pie, sour cherry, cola, orange peel, sage and cinnamon stick on the nose. Powerful and compact on the palate, with wild boysenberry, cranberry, peach and sage.

Roast chicken with sage, mushroom pasta, or a simple grilled salmon.

Will Henry and Lane Tanner founded Lumen in 2012 to work cool-climate vineyards in Santa Barbara County, picking early in the harvest to keep wines lively, complex and lower in alcohol. Tanner was the first independent female winemaker in Santa Barbara County and the first to build a winery solely around Pinot Noir.
