Dan and Donna Lee founded Morgan Winery in 1982 and planted Double L Vineyard in 1996, naming it for their twin daughters. In 2001 Double L became the first certified organic vineyard in the Santa Lucia Highlands, and it still anchors this bottling: 61% of the 2021 Twelve Clones comes from that estate. Aged nine months in 32% new French oak at 14.2% alcohol, this is a Pinot built on two decades of organic farming, not a marketing label. Pour it for anyone who wants Central Coast Pinot with real vineyard pedigree.

Raspberry hard candy, bay laurel and bergamot tea on the nose. Flavors of red fruit, potpourri and sweet-savory spice ride a medium-plus body, with crisp raspberry, crushed slate and rose petal lingering on an elegant, tannin-framed finish.

Roast duck, mushroom tart, or grilled salmon. The finish is delicate enough to keep up.

Double L Vineyard, planted by the Lees in 1996 in the northern Santa Lucia Highlands, has been certified organic since 2001, the first and still only certified organic vineyard in the appellation. The 2021 Twelve Clones draws 61% of its blend from this estate.
