The Napa-Bordeaux handshake, vintage 2019. Opus One was founded in 1979 by Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild, and the 2019 blends 78% Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec from the estate's Oakville vineyards. Harvest started ten days early and ran four weeks, and critics landed in the mid-to-high 90s on the result. Velvet tannins, dark floral fruit, decades ahead of it. The safest trophy bottle in American wine.

Black Forest cake, Morello cherry, mulberry and blackcurrant with licorice, wilted rose and iron. Full-bodied, juicy black and blue fruit, velvety tannins, long earthy mineral finish.

Classic matches for Cabernet Sauvignon: Ribeye off the grill, lamb chops, aged cheddar, a rainy night and a good movie.

A joint venture of the Mondavi and Rothschild families since 1979, with estate vineyards in Oakville including historic To Kalon parcels surrounding the landmark winery.
