Perla Terra is Matteo Ascheri's answer to a fair question: where is the Barolo you can open on a Tuesday? Fruit comes from cru vineyards across several Barolo villages, vinified traditionally and aged a minimum of 18 months in large oak casks. At 45,500 bottles it is his biggest-production wine, imported by Dalla Terra, and critics land it around 91 points. All the perfume of Nebbiolo with the tannin dialed down to welcoming. Real Barolo, no waiting period.
Dark red fruit compote, violets, savory herbs and minerality on the nose. Black cherry, dark chocolate, leather and earth on a smooth palate, with gentler tannins than the appellation usually shows.
