American Cabernet royalty, grown high in the Santa Cruz Mountains above San Francisco Bay. Ridge has made Monte Bello from this mountain estate since 1962, and the 2020 pulls from 36 parcels: 84% Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Native yeast fermentation, natural malolactic, 20 months in new air-dried American oak, and just 13.5% alcohol. Old-school structure with decades ahead of it. One of the few California wines that belongs in the first-growth conversation.

Blackcurrant and dark cherry with cedar, dried herbs and sweet American oak. Full mid-palate, firm acidity, velvety well-integrated tannins, long sumptuous finish. Give it hours of air or years of patience.

Charcoal-grilled ribeye, rack of lamb, or a mushroom Wellington for the non-meat table.

Ridge farms the Monte Bello estate high in the Santa Cruz Mountains and keeps the winemaking deliberately traditional: destemmed whole berries, native yeasts, natural malolactic, and aging in air-dried American oak rather than French.
