Schone Tal - Pinot Noir - 2018
$56.99
Schone Tal Cellars is a small, family-run Pinot Noir producer in McMinnville, Oregon's Willamette Valley -- the name means beautiful valley in German, a nod to the founder's heritage. It's a minimal-intervention operation: the founder started as a harvest volunteer in the early 1990s, learning from established Willamette winemakers before bottling a first vintage under the label in 2014. Their Pinot Noirs come from mature Willamette Valley vineyard sites, typically fermented with a meaningful share of whole clusters and aged in French oak.
Raspberry and cherry fruit with an earthy, savory edge -- rhubarb, orange peel and wet forest floor turn up as it opens. Medium-bodied with bright acidity and fine, silky tannins typical of the house style.
Classic matches for Pinot Noir: Salmon, roast duck, mushroom risotto, a charcuterie board that means business.
