Shafer TD 9 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2023

Named for the International Harvester TD-9 tractor John Shafer taught himself to drive in 1973 while founding the winery. Fifty years later, TD-9 is Shafer's blending wine: the 2023 runs 75% Cabernet Sauvignon with 11% Merlot, 7% Malbec and 7% Petit Verdot from Stags Leap District, Yountville and the Vaca foothills, aged 18 months in 100% new French oak from Allier and Troncais. Jeb Dunnuck scored it 93-95. Real Shafer pedigree for a fraction of Hillside Select money. Layers of blackberry, black plum and spice accented by tobacco, toast and savory herbs. Lush and energetic at once, ripe and round, with silky tannins and a mouthfilling frame. Cellar time will only add grace.
