Tenuta San Guido - Guidalberto - Toscana IGT - 2019

Guidalberto is Tenuta San Guido's second wine, the approachable half-sibling to Sassicaia from the same Bolgheri estate. The 2019 blends 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, aged 15 months in French oak barriques with a touch of American oak, then rested in glass before release. Nicolò Incisa created it in 2000 to bring the estate's Bordeaux-varietal style to a wider table. It drinks beautifully now, no cellar required, and it tastes like Bolgheri without the Sassicaia price tag.
Purple flowers, dark berries and crushed mint on the nose. Blackberry, orange zest and licorice carry through on a medium to full body, with firm, silky tannins and fresh acidity keeping the finish long and linear.
Classic matches for a red like this: Grilled and roasted meats, hearty pastas, aged cheeses.
Tenuta San Guido sits in Bolgheri on Tuscany's coast, the estate that built Sassicaia and the modern Super Tuscan category. Guidalberto launched with the 2000 vintage as a more accessible sibling: same Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot varieties, same address, styled for earlier drinking.
