Valtravieso - Crianza - 2019

Valtravieso Crianza comes from Bodegas Valtravieso, a Ribera del Duero estate on the La Revilla property in Pinel de Arriba, working some of the region's highest vineyards at 920 meters. The 2019 is Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) with small additions of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, aged at least 12 months in French and American oak, then more time in bottle. Older bush-trained vines on limestone soil give the wine its mineral edge. This is a serious, food-ready crianza for anyone who wants Ribera del Duero structure without reserva prices.

Deep cherry red with a bright rim. Redcurrant and strawberry jam meet dark chocolate, roasted nuts and menthol on the nose. The palate is full and fresh, with fine, sweet tannins and a long, persistent finish.

Pour with grilled lamb chops, chorizo or a well-aged Manchego.

Valtravieso was founded in 1985 on the La Revilla estate in Ribera del Duero, expanded under the González Beteré family who bought it in 2002 and opened a new winery in 2007. Vineyards sit at 920 meters, among the region's highest, split between limestone plots for elegance and clay-veined plots for body; the estate is converting to organic.
