Clos du Moulin - Aux Moines Bourgogne - Clos de la Perriere Rouge - 2021

$56.99

Clos du Moulin aux Moines is a walled Burgundy estate founded in 962 by Cluny Abbey monks, later placed under Citeaux Abbey for six centuries -- one of the oldest continuously farmed vineyard sites in the Cote de Beaune. The Andrieu family revived the domaine in 2008, converting the entire 16-hectare property to organic and biodynamic farming, work still done partly with horses. This Bourgogne Rouge comes from Clos de la Perriere, their monopole Pinot Noir vineyard between Corpeau and Puligny-Montrachet. A genuine slice of ancient Burgundy at a Bourgogne-level price.

Transparent, luminous crimson. Smoke, blackcurrant, ripe raspberry and wild strawberry on the nose, with undergrowth, leaf and cool mineral notes. Sour cherry and plum on the palate, with mint, pepper and iron, finishing on fine, balanced tannins.

Pan-roasted duck breast, coq au vin, grilled lamb rack, or a mushroom-heavy dish -- this has the earthy backbone for it.

Clos de la Perriere is the estate's monopole -- a single, walled vineyard between Corpeau and Puligny-Montrachet, unclassified but farmed with the same rigor as the grand cru neighbors. The domaine traces back to 962 and Cluny Abbey monks; since the Andrieu family took over in 2008, all 16 hectares have been certified organic and, since 2021, biodynamic, worked partly by horse.
