Sancerre is famous for Sauvignon Blanc, but the appellation's red side, always 100% Pinot Noir, is where insiders look for value. Domaine La Croix St-Laurent farms 10 hectares of calcareous marl and flint in the village of Bue, sustainably, and the Cirotte family macerates this cuvee 30 days before aging it 12 months, 70% in French oak and 30% in stainless steel. The 2020 is silky and brambly, closer to red Burgundy than its price tag suggests.

Silky, brambly black fruit up front, with red cherry, raspberry and a subtle earthy note. Bright acidity and soft, fine-grained tannins keep it clean through a long finish.

Chicken, pork, hard cheeses or turkey are the importer's own suggested pairings.

Farmed by the Cirotte family on 10 hectares of calcareous marl and flint in Bue, sustainably. Macerated 30 days in temperature-controlled vats before 12 months of aging.
