Familia Zuccardi - Malamado - Malbec Port
$30.00
Malamado is Familia Zuccardi's fortified Malbec, made Port-style: fermentation gets stopped early with a dash of grape spirit, locking in sweetness and pushing up the alcohol. It then spends two full years in French oak. Zuccardi has farmed Mendoza since 1963, when founder Alberto "Tito" Zuccardi planted the family's first vineyard to prove out a new irrigation system in the desert; his son José Alberto took the winery global starting in 1976. The result is a dark, luscious sipper built for the end of the meal, not the middle of it.
Overripe plums, dried figs, quince, cinnamon, toasted almonds, chestnuts and walnuts. Sweet, silky tannins, a rich, brooding palate, and a long, warming finish.
Chocolate desserts, blue cheese, or pâté. This is a fortified red built to stand up to strong flavors.
Founded in 1963 by engineer Alberto "Tito" Zuccardi to showcase a new irrigation system in the Mendoza desert, the estate passed to son José Alberto in the mid-1970s, who built it into one of Argentina's top wine exporters. Malamado is fermented like a red wine, then fortified and aged two years in French oak, Port-method style.
