Lapostolle - La Parcelle 8 - 2018

$165.00

This is the vineyard that started Clos Apalta. In 1994, Alexandra Marnier Lapostolle and her husband Cyril de Bournet found a plot of ungrafted, 100-plus-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon vines planted in 1907 in Apalta, the first ground the family saw when they arrived in the Colchagua Valley. La Parcelle 8 is a tiny, secret-reserve bottling made from those original vines, biodynamically farmed and Demeter certified. The 2018 hits 15% alcohol and rated 94 points.

Oaky, ripe and extracted, with orange zest lifting the dark fruit. Old-vine character shows bark and mushroom under blackberry and blueberry. Firm, tight, chewy tannins and bright acidity carry a dry finish with real grip.

Classic matches for Cabernet Sauvignon: Ribeye off the grill, lamb chops, aged cheddar, a rainy night and a good movie.

Planted in 1907 on original, ungrafted rootstock, these are among the oldest Cabernet Sauvignon vines in Chile. Farmed biodynamically and Demeter certified, matured 29 months in 100% new French oak. Best from 2025 on, per the importer.
