Chateau De Valcombe - Pastel Rose - 2022

Château de Valcombe has been in the Ricome family since 1749, and today Basile and Nicolas Ricome run the southernmost estate in Costières de Nîmes, at the far end of the Rhône Valley rather than Provence proper. Pastel is 96% Syrah and 4% Viognier, organically farmed and aged in cement tanks rather than oak, which keeps it fresh and pale. Red berry, a hint of apricot and honey carry through a light, bright palate. This is Rhône rosé for people who think they only like Provence pink.

Pale pink with faint blue glints. Light red berry aromas with a touch of exotic fruit, apricot and honey on the palate, fresh and bright throughout.

The estate itself recommends beef and parmesan carpaccio, grilled chorizo or mussels. It beats the usual salad pairing by a mile.

The Ricome family has farmed this 63-hectare estate since 1749. Charles Ricome planted Syrah here in 1955, and grandsons Basile and Nicolas converted the vineyards to certified organic farming in 2012, working now toward biodynamic certification.
